Kevin in Woodstock has a new article on last weeks BOE meeting. Here’s an excerpt: “It also looks like Mr. Powers suit was decided in our favor. I don’t know if he will go for an appeal; I won’t speculate. Also we had a proposed solution to the FOIA request by Mr. Shultz, also in our favor. I think we still might have one more to go on his other complaint as I’m not sure that one was covered by the decision we saw. So good news on that front.
But with every ending there is a new beginning. It appears that Mr. Shultz is unhappy with the title of one of our executive sessions so he has turned in another complaint…”
Yesterday I heard some negative remarks about Alaskan Blogs. It turns out that the main issue swirling up there is the lack of vetting of Sarah Palin. To get what is actually being said, go HERE and choose from the more highly rated blogs.

“…It appears that Mr. Shultz is unhappy with the title of one of our executive sessions so he has turned in another complaint. During our March meetings we put forth and approved a motion after coming out of an executive session asking for the money that he owes the town for a FOIA request that he refused to pay for. He didn’t think the title on the agenda was clear enough for our executive session to cover the discussion that must have occured to lead to that vote.”

Per the CT FOI Commission:
EXECUTIVE SESSIONS
I. AN AGENCY MAY CLOSE CERTAIN PORTIONS OF ITS MEETINGS BY A VOTE OF 2/3 OF THE MEMBERS PRESENT AND VOTING. THIS VOTE MUST BE CONDUCTED AT A PUBLIC SESSION.
Meetings to discuss the following matters may be closed: specific employees (unless the employee concerned requests that the discussions be open to the public); strategy and negotiations regarding pending claims and litigation; security matters; real estate acquisition (if openness might increase price); or any matter that would result in the disclosure of a public record exempted from the disclosure requirements for public records.
Any business or discussion in a closed session must be limited to the above areas.
The agency may invite persons to present testimony or opinion in the executive session, but their attendance must be limited to only the time necessary for that testimony or opinion.

Can you tell me how discussion about “asking for the money that he owes to the town for a FOIA request” meets the criteria for a closed meeting (i.e., executive session)???
RC,
Since Mr. Shultz has started a new claim I will no longer make public comments on the facts of this issue.

Kevin,
OK.
Everyone,
Please, please, please be careful driving around the corner in front of my house (Taylor’s Corner on Rt. 171). This morning another school bus was hit, the second in 2008. Very little damage was done to the bus, no children were riding on it and as far as I know no one was hurt. The car, on the other hand, looked heavily damaged. It is a dangerous corner and cars going too fast have a tendency to drift over the middle lane.
Thanks,
Kevin
