Guilt by association seems to have become a governing influence in voter decision making. The irrational claim that Barack Obama is a terrorist because he met Bill Ayers is absurd and this is just one example of how far John McCain has transformed himself into a losing proposition. Obama and Ayers served together for three years on the board of the Woods Fund of Chicago, an anti-poverty foundation established in 1941.
Obama had joined the nine-member board in 1993, and had attended a dozen of the quarterly meetings together with Ayers between 1999 and 2002. This fact led McCain to say “Why would Barack Obama be friends with someone who bombed the Capitol and is proud of it?” and Palin to say that Obama has been “palling around with terrorists.” Only the stupid and the prejudice fall for this kind of rhetoric. Yes, Ayers was an original member of the anarchist group called the Weathermen which bombed some government facilities and blew some of themselves up in the process when Obama was a eight or nine. Today Ayers is a different sort of activist who has worked to raise funding for better schools for inner city Chicago and the poor.
At about the same time Hillary was showing her support for Black Panther murderer, Bobby Seale. I’m sure if Hillary got the nomination in place of Obama all of her left wing activist activities would have been raised by McCain and Palin as well. Perhaps raising Hillary’s early activist activities would have been appropriate because clearly Hillary was an activist directly involved with a criminal fringe.
