Student Highlights from the Woodstock Elementary and Middle Schools

Woodstock Elementary School County Winner in CT State Fire Prevention Poster Contest

We are proud to announce that WES has a county winner in the annual CT State Fire Prevention Poster contest! Cassidy Thorpe, a fourth grader in Mrs. Hayes’ class, designed the winning poster. The selection process was phased. First, a winning poster was picked by student for each fourth grade classroom. Staff member judges then had the difficult job of selecting the final one. Cassidy Thorpe’s poster was chosen to represent WES, and the poster committee selected hers as the winner of the Windham County competition! Cassidy, her parents, Mrs. Hayes and Mrs. Herklots attended the Annual Award Presentation Lunch in March. Cassidy will receive a $200 Savings Bond and her poster will be in next year’s CT State Fire Prevention calendar. This project makes meaningful connections between art, language arts and everyday public safety awareness. Every fourth grade student received a certificate of participation, a calendar, a folder and a pen for their hard work. We are all excited that Cassidy is representing WES and Windham County!
