So the town is safeing $146,525 due to sending less students to WA. Is anyone aware of the staff cuts being made at WA? I am very happy to see that there will likely be no cuts at the Elem/MS level, but I am disappointed that cuts are being made at the HS. How many fewer students will be attending WA next year?

EV,
I don’t have the exact numbers in front of me but the aggregate reduction in headcount going to WA from all sending towns this year is significant. This reduction in utilization has led to the situation where the Woodstock Academy needed in turn to reduce headcount.
Everyone else,
Sorry I haven’t been around lately to continue discussions/answer questions. The wife and I took an extended trip to New Zealand. We had a great time but my ability to respond was pretty limited.
Thanks,
Kevin

According to the published figures above the WA enrollment will be reduced by 24.5 students. This number will fluctuate over the summer and can not be considered written in stone. Also, it was noted that WPS is eliminating two teaching positions and replacing three higher step teachers with three lower step teachers, unless I am reading this wrong?

Anyone aware of how much was spent to renovate the old library to be the new headmaster’s office?
Is anyone aware of what his salary is? I imagine all that money accounted for a few of the layoffs.

I assume the 24.5 is Woodstock only? There has been alot of talk in the press about WA losing 80-90 students for next year, many from Brooklyn. Is this number legit?

EV,
Yes, it was much more. From the WA BOT Finance committee meeting in February (pretty sure it was Februrary) the budget assumption was for a projected enrollment of 1071 from all sending towns, this is back to 2003/2004 levels for the WA. Last year it was 1165.5, so yes a substantial drop in enrollment.
TeachRef, you are reading that correctly. No one will be RIFed but we are dropping some positions.
Thanks,
Kevin

Holy typos batman, I didn’t proofread that at all. Here is a better version.
A little birdie has tweeted in my ear and let me know that there might be some interesting shenanigans at tomorrow’s BoF meeting. Some special interest groups are again agitating and attempting to pressure the BoF. I don’t know if any of you remember last year the BoF approved the BoE’s budget and then in the next meeting (after a swap of a slightly late BoF member’s seat with an alternate) it was cut instead of sending it to the voters.
I’m hearing scuttlebutt that this may be about to happen again. The BoE’s budget was approved by the BoF and again certain elements are pressuring the BoF to change that decision and send a reduced budget to the town for a vote. It seems that certain minority elements in town think that it is a lot easier to pressure four people on the BoF to get their way instead of letting the voting public have their say.
I know this is short notice and I don’t know if anyone will have a chance to read this. According to the town’s calendar the Board of Finance’s meeting is tomorrow at 7:30 PM in town hall room 1. I hope you can all make it to show your support for our budget and at least give the voter’s a chance to vote up or down.
Thanks,
Kevin

To numbers the old bracken building was a money pit .the basement floor was repoured over, several rooms were built one was for the business manager, the other ones who knows.the wooden floors were totally stripped and refinished, blown foam insulation in the attic,a confrence room,a reception area, alumni office, and the head masters office.talk about being disconnected from the rest of the school.also installed was air conditioning.that should have been installed in the library instead, that would have benefitted alot more people that atleast live in a sending town. As. Far as that accounting for lay offs I don’t know, but some of the employes are not being laid off I have mentioned before, they have been told they will be forced to Resign .I thought bullying was not allowed in schools ? What about the swamp they bought ? All the money that was spent on a sprinkler system at the sports complex for a field that you can’t even play on after a rain storm becauce it holds somuch surface water? The list goes on and on and on ,and the only the students and local sending towns people suffer because there is too many nonlocal people making decisions for the WA.That must be the academy difference.
