Woodstock Republican Party Platform in 2007
The Woodstock Republican Party seeks the continuing support of the
citizens of Woodstock. We are proud of the accomplishments of past and
present Republican administrations. We present the following goals as
our platform in 2007:
TOWN GOVERNMENT
1. Encourage the participation of citizens in town government
through the continued practice of open town meetings and board meetings
with ample opportunity for citizens’ participation, as well as through
frequent communications via the town’s web site and various written
media.
2. Actively seek and encourage citizens to serve on the various
boards and commissions and other volunteer positions.
3. Recruit and endorse town officials who are qualified.
4. Encourage openness, respect, and an atmosphere of working
together among the Town Hall employees, between the various boards, and
with Woodstock’s citizens in general.
5. Enforce town ordinances actively and evenhandedly.
6. Follow the Town of Woodstock code of ethics.
TAXES, SPENDING, AND FISCAL MANAGEMENT
1. Oppose the imposition of unfunded state mandates.
2. Spend the minimum necessary to effectively provide the services
required by the town’s citizens.
3. Support an open and thorough budgeting process, clearly
identifying the costs and benefits of various town services. Fund town
programs based on identified priorities and the availability of
resources.
EDUCATION
1. Support the efforts of town education leaders towards improving
the quality of education for all Woodstock students.
2. Approach spending issues with the recognition that more money
does not necessarily result in better quality, but be prepared to spend
to the extent necessary to ensure that Woodstock’s children receive a
high quality education.
3. Support common sense reforms to the state’s binding arbitration
laws, while rewarding superior teacher performance.
4. Encourage cost saving initiatives through technology,
partnerships with other organizations, grants, and volunteerism.
5. Work to strengthen communications and coordination between
Woodstock Public Schools, Woodstock Academy, and the community.
LONG TERM PLANNING
1. Respect the property rights of individuals while encouraging the
preservation of the town’s rural character and cultural assets through
well-conceived open space initiatives, zoning, and support of
agriculture.
2. Maintain our town’s roadways and facilities; make necessary
repairs in the short term to avoid more costly outlays in the long term.
3. Encourage economic development consistent with the community’s
character to minimize the tax burden on the individual taxpayer.
4. Support the efforts of various local philanthropic organizations
and individuals to further the town’s goals.
We, the members of the Republican Town Committee and Republican
candidates for elected office, dedicate ourselves to keeping Woodstock
an affordable and enjoyable place to live and to achieving the above
goals for a still better Woodstock.
Our Mission
Our mission is to further promote the interests of our organization and our members to the community. We strive to make a difference by educating the public and expanding our reach.
